7 years ago the Vermont Bicycle Shop crew did a bike packing trip up one of the steepest and tallest paved roads in Vermont. An abandoned US military radar base has occupied the top of East Mountain for over half a century. Most famously, in 1961, the radar base tracked an unidentified object on its screens for 18 minutes, just a couple hours before Barney and Betty Hill were allegedly abducted by aliens.
One Halloween weekend 7 years ago, our crew rode for 20 miles and climbed almost 4000 feet (3200 feet in the last few miles) and camped overnight on the wind swept mountain top, among the remains of that cold war radar base.

We’ll ride ------------------------------------------REDACTED------------------------------------------gravel roads, paved roads, class 4 roads, and single track across the northern part of the Kinsman Mountain wilderness to get to the site where Barney and Betty Hill were reportedly taken by visitors from another world.
We’ll stay overnight and ride the same route back the next day.
